Brightland- California Sunshine, Shipped

Overview Brightland made olive oil beautiful. Founded by Aishwarya Iyer and launched in Los Angeles in 2018, it set out to reshape an industry built on dusty bottles and mystery blends with cold-pressed, California-grown extra virgin olive oil in UV-coated white bottles wrapped in abstract, sun-bright art. The range now spans signature and flavoured olive oils, a Mediterranean Capsule, raw vinegars, orange blossom honey, Pizza Oil and kitchen accessories, with gift sets that have landed on Oprah’s Favorite Things. More than 600,000 customers, over 3,000 five-star reviews and national Whole Foods distribution later, Brightland is an eight-figure brand that still ships from California within 24 hours. Huettun Labs partnered with SDCO Partners, the studio behind Brightland’s naming, identity and packaging, on brightland.co. Huettun’s scope covered brand consultancy for the digital experience, UI/UX design and development of the custom Shopify storefront and commerce integrations.

The challenge Brightland sells a $38 bottle of olive oil to people who could buy one for $12, and it sells a lot of them as gifts. The store had to justify the price with provenance, harvest dates and polyphenol counts, make gifting effortless for individuals and corporate buyers alike, turn one-time buyers into subscribers, send grocery shoppers to the nearest Whole Foods, and keep a growing library of recipes and field notes one click from the cart. It also had to carry an identity that deliberately avoids green and olives, in a category where everyone else leans on both.

Brand consultancy (Huettun Labs, with SDCO Partners) From label to layout. We worked with the SDCO identity, its abstract olive-derived shapes, cobalt, sunshine yellow, blush and tomato palette and modernist type, to define how it behaves in a dense, transactional store: where colour blocks carry the brand and where white space lets product photography sell. “You bring the food. We’ll bring the sunshine.” Guidance on a voice that is warm, generous and Californian (“Pour generously”, “Hello, Cozy Season”, “Gift sunshine”) and on how it coexists with badges like Bestseller, Low Stock and Oprah’s Favorite Things. Trust architecture. A repeatable set of proof points, Loved by 600,000+ Customers, Ships within 24 Hours, Beautifully Packaged, California-Grown, deployed as a scrolling marquee across the site, plus press logos and customer quotes on every landing page. Content pillars. Recipes and Field Notes positioned as the brand’s reasons to return, with categories that reflect how Brightland customers live: Dinner, Baking, Bread, Bookshelf, Playlists.

UI and UX design (Huettun Labs) Visual system. Near-black type on white, with cobalt blue buttons and blocks of sunshine yellow, blush pink and tomato red lifted from the labels. A circular grotesque for interface text, a warm serif for editorial moments and a script accent for seasonal campaigns, scaling from phone to wide desktop. Mega-menu navigation. Shop by Best Sellers, Extra Virgin Olive Oils, The Flavor Collection, The Mediterranean Capsule, Raw Vinegars and Pantry Essentials, each with imagery, plus a dedicated Gift Shop entry, Build Your Set, Recipes, Field Notes, Find in Store and Our Story. Homepage merchandising. A rotating announcement bar, a seasonal hero (“Hello, Cozy Season”), category tiles, a bestseller carousel with star ratings and badges, customer testimonials, a Back in Stock feature for The Pizza Night Set and a “Meet the Brightland Pantry” explainer. Product pages that justify the price. Harvest date, olive varietals and farms, a Subscribe & Save toggle at 12% off with monthly, 2-month and 3-month delivery, free shipping and pause-or-cancel, product details, “Enjoy With” pairings, polyphenol count and benefits, and Okendo reviews with sort and search. Build Your Own Set. A set builder with savings up to 15% and free shipping over $90, for stocking up or tasting something new. Gifting, three ways. A Gift Shop with Gifts Under $100, holiday gift sets with Oprah and Almost Gone badges, and a Corporate Gifting page with a self-service send-to-many portal, printed gift notes, e-gifts, bulk orders, a custom-order form and 15% off orders over $1,000. Content commerce. A Recipes blog filterable by meal with dietary tags, and a Field Notes blog with lifestyle categories, both ending in a newsletter capture and a bestseller carousel. Service and support. A topic-navigated FAQ, a Gorgias chat widget, a Text With Us SMS program, a reviews page, a Stockist store locator and Shop Pay checkout. Accessibility. Retail and wholesale. A Stockist store locator for Whole Foods and independent shoppers and a Faire wholesale channel. Agent-ready commerce. An agentic discovery sitemap, agents.md policy and Universal Commerce Protocol (UCP) endpoint so AI shopping assistants can discover and buy from the catalogue. Performance and security. Shopify’s global edge with Cloudflare, early hints, lazy loading and responsive srcset on more than 550 homepage images, HSTS, a content security policy and clickjacking protection. SEO foundations. Canonical URLs, keyword-led titles and meta descriptions on every page, Open Graph metadata, BreadcrumbList, WebSite SearchAction and Organization structured data, and real-time product, collection, page, blog and article sitemaps.
