Bombay Sweet Shop

Re-platformed Shopify Storefront

Overview Bombay Sweet Shop set out to make Indian mithai anything but boring. Launched in Mumbai in March 2020 by Hunger Inc., the group behind The Bombay Canteen and O Pedro, with Chef Girish Nayak as its Chief Mithaiwala, it reinvented kaju katli as dark-chocolate Indie Bites, motichur laddu as a box of nine, and the festive hamper as a design object. A Byculla factory and shop, a Bandra dessert bar, collaborations with Starbucks and The Archies, an Art Deco-inspired identity by Please See//, and coverage from Vogue to Forbes India have made it India’s most talked-about sweet shop. In late 2025 it raised about Rs 200 crore to take mithai global. Huettun Labs worked with Bombay Sweet Shop on the 2025 to 2026 re-platform and evolution of bombaysweetshop.com: brand consultancy for the digital experience, UI/UX design and a rebuilt Shopify storefront on a new theme foundation, with the catalogue, gifting, login and checkout experiences redesigned around how Indians actually buy sweets.

The challenge A mithai brand sells two very different things online: fresh sweets that must reach a Mumbai doorstep the same day, and shelf-stable hampers that ship across India for Diwali, weddings, births and corporate gifting. The store had to show each customer only what can reach them, make a 3,000-hamper corporate order as easy as a single box, carry a maximalist, colour-saturated brand without slowing the page, sign customers in with a tap rather than a password, and survive the Diwali traffic spike when most of the year’s gifting happens in three weeks.

Brand consultancy (Huettun Labs, with Please See//) From packaging to pixels. We worked with the Please See// identity, its Art Deco wordmark, maximalist Indian motifs and jewel-tone palette, to define how it behaves in a dense retail interface: maroon and navy as the brand chrome, the packaging’s colour and illustration carried by the product photography. “Reimagining sweets for modern gifting.” The positioning line set as the site’s title, with “anything but boring” as the voice cue for category and product copy. Two shops in one. A naming system that makes the location split legible, Shop Mumbai and Shop Pan-India, with “Mumbai Exclusives” and “Fresh Off The Kadhai” for the fresh range and “Mumbai Only” tags on products. Gifting as the organising idea. Customised Gifting structured by occasion, Baby Announcement, Wedding, Celebrations, Corporate and Diwali Corporate, so a buyer with a reason finds a hamper before a product. Proof at scale. Trust numbers surfaced as brand claims: 3,500+ corporate clients, 1,000+ weddings, 3,22,172 hampers delivered and a pan-India delivery network, plus a Featured In press ticker.

UI and UX design (Huettun Labs) Visual system. A deep maroon announcement bar and accent, a navy footer, warm yellow badges for offers and bestsellers, and white product canvases, set in Jost for interface text with Fraunces for editorial moments. Mega navigation with thumbnails. Shop All, Mithai, Chocolate, Namkeen and Mumbai Exclusives, each column showing four products with images and a Shop All link, plus Diwali Hampers, Customised Gifting by occasion, Diwali Specials, Track Your Order, Our Stores, About, Sweets Library and Blog, with a Bestsellers rail in the menu itself. Location-aware catalogue. A category strip that opens with Diwali Specials, Shop Mumbai and Shop All-India, “Mumbai Only” labels on fresh products such as Coffee Rasgulla Tiramisu, and pincode checks on product pages. Homepage. Festive campaign hero, a Featured In ticker, a Diwali gifting favourites grid with ratings, strike-through MRP and “Inclusive of all taxes” pricing, a four-tile Bombay Sweet Shop Experience (Mithai, Bulk Gifting, Curated Hampers, Cafés), customer reviews and the Trusted Across India proof block. Product pages. Bundle variants (hamper with an added mithai box), “What’s in the hamper” breakdowns, shelf life and ingredient details, pincode check for delivery, Judge.me reviews, wishlist, Notify Me and pre-order states, and a sticky Add to Cart. Corporate and customised gifting. Landing pages with “Complete Solutions For Every Corporate Need”, a PowerfulForm enquiry form, What’s Inside and Packed with Love sections, an Urgent Gifts path, partner logos, testimonials and an FAQ, so a procurement manager can brief an order without a call. Sweets Library and Journal. An encyclopedia of Indian sweets and a Mithai Journal blog that give the brand search reach beyond its products. Predictive search and popular searches. A search overlay that suggests Shop All, Shop Pan-India, Shop Mumbai, Shop Hampers and Bulk Gifting before the customer types. Service. Track Your Order, a sectioned FAQ (order, feedback, payment, allergens, account and stores), WhatsApp and phone contact in the header, and a seven-section Our Stores page. Accessibility. Skip-to-content link, ARIA-labelled navigation and controls, and a viewport that allows zoom.

Website development (Huettun Labs) Re-platform. Migration from the store’s previous Dawn-based theme to a customised Pinnacle foundation with custom header, mega-menu, mobile-menu, announcement, modal and predictive-search modules, so the merchandising team can rebuild campaigns from the theme editor. Login and checkout. Truecaller one-tap OTP login, Shopflo checkout with GoKwik, Simpl pay-later and cash on delivery, tuned for Indian mobile buyers. Reviews and retention. Judge.me reviews with star ratings on tiles and product pages, Klaviyo email and SMS, a wishlist app, back-in-stock alerts and a UGC gallery (“Made by us, Shared by you”). Forms. PowerfulForm for corporate and customised gifting briefs and recaptcha-protected contact. Speed. instant.page link prefetching, lazy loading and responsive srcset on virtually every image, and Shopify’s global edge with Cloudflare. Analytics. Google Tag Manager, Meta pixel and Microsoft Clarity. Agent-ready commerce. An agentic discovery sitemap, agents.md policy and Universal Commerce Protocol (UCP) endpoint so AI shopping assistants can discover and buy from the catalogue. SEO foundations. Keyword-led titles on home, collections, products and pages, canonical URLs, Open Graph metadata, Organization (with founding date and location), WebSite SearchAction, BreadcrumbList, CollectionPage and ProductGroup structured data, and real-time product, collection, page, blog and article sitemaps.

Results One storefront that sells fresh mithai in Mumbai and shelf-stable hampers across India without confusing either customer. Corporate and customised gifting flows that turn a 3,000-hamper Diwali order into a web form. A 4.9-star review presence surfaced on tiles and product pages, and a mega menu that puts bestsellers one tap from any page. A platform the team runs through Diwali, from campaign hero to FAQ, from the theme editor.
